Women’s TEC

A Movement for Change

Recognising the immense talent and untapped potential of women, Women’s TEC was established almost three decades ago with a clear vision in mind: to break down barriers, challenge stereotypes and create a more inclusive and diverse workforce.

Harnessing the power of the pack, Women’s TEC has created a powerful community of women who are committed to share, connect, support and influence change.

In acknowledging that no one single issue affects women’s ability to move into further training, education and employment, Women’s TEC adopts a holistic approach to addressing the barriers which either prevent, or make it more difficult for women and girls to participate in and become economically active.

Bridging the Gender Gap

Alongside accredited and non-accredited skills development opportunities in trades (electrics, plumbing, joinery, horticulture, painting & decorating etc.), Women’s TEC provide free childcare for all students, combine skills training with personal development programmes, peer support,  volunteering opportunities, and mental health and wellbeing initiatives.

The #notjustforboys campaign promotes early exposure to non-traditional careers. Women’s TEC works with schools to highlight diverse career opportunities, introduce role models from non-traditional fields and provide hands-on experiences that challenge gender stereotypes.

Showcasing Role Models

Women’s TEC celebrates successful women who have excelled in non-traditional careers as role models. Sharing stories of their achievements and journeys inspires and motivates other women to pursue similar paths. Mentoring initiatives that pair aspiring young women with experienced professionals in non-traditional fields can help women navigate the challenges they may face.

Women’s TEC challenge gender stereotypes by promoting positive and accurate portrayals of women in non-traditional careers. Conferences and workshops that showcase successful women in non-traditional careers play a large part in breaking down preconceived notions and demonstrating that these fields are open to everyone.

Women’s TEC fosters supportive networks and communities that enable women to connect, collaborate, and share their experiences. These communities provide a platform for mentorship, knowledge-sharing and professional development. By creating a sense of belonging and solidarity, these networks empower women to overcome challenges and reach their full potential.

Industry Engagement and Partnerships

To create lasting change, Women’s TEC actively develops strategic partnerships. By collaborating with companies, organisations, and educational institutions, Women’s TEC fosters a collaborative environment that supports women’s career progression. These partnerships provide opportunities for internships, job placements and other avenues for women to gain practical experience and advance their careers.

Impact and the Future

The impact of Women’s TEC Belfast is undeniable. Through their efforts, numerous women have entered non-traditional careers, overcome barriers and become role models for future generations.

Looking ahead, Women’s TEC plans to expand its reach, deepen its impact, and continue driving change in non-traditional roles. By amplifying the voices of women in construction, advocating for gender equality, and equipping women with the skills they need, Women’s TEC is building a brighter future where women can thrive and excel in local industry.
